The Wedding Cake "A to Z"...

The Wedding Cake A to Z…

A – Advice

Planning a wedding is fun but challenging, after all it’s something that you’ve not done before, so you will have lots of questions and need plenty of advice. A bespoke cake is probably not something that you have ever ordered

before so ask for as much help and advice as you need – that’s what the professionals are here for and I am always happy to help! There’s no such thing as a silly question.

B – Baking

Don’t forget that a wedding cake needs to taste delicious too! I bake all my own cakes from scratch with recipes I have perfected over many years, using top quality ingredients and always free range eggs. Allergies can be catered for – please just ask for our allergen statements.

C – Consultations

I love to help my clients come up with new, creative and personalised designs and I offer free design consultations in the relaxed comfort of the Studio. This consultation is entirely free of charge and is invaluable in achieving the cake of your dreams. I allocate 2 hours for this design consultation and it provides a very generous time slot in which to create your design and try lots of yummy cake. Meeting in person is brilliant as I get to know more about you and the theme for your wedding, flowers, colours,

venue etc. All these little bits of information allow me to really understand what you are looking for.

D –Delivery and set up

Many of my cake designs are very delicate and intricate, some are just so large that it would be impractical to travel with them pre-assembled. Whilst you are very welcome to come and collect them in person, I do highly recommend that you opt for my specialist delivery and set up service. I will liaise directly with your venue to agree the convenient time to deliver, taking into account other factors such as climate, room dressing, other functions etc... Cakes are delivered in professional, liveried company vehicles and will be packaged safely and hygienically whilst in transit in an air conditioned environment. On arrival, I will ensure that the designated cake display table is in a safe, appropriate position and is both strong enough and level to support your cake. Your cake will then be brought in and unpacked, maintaining strict hygiene standards, and assembled and dressed with the appropriate décor as previously requested by you. I am prepared for all eventualities and will bring tools, spare flowers, fruit, decoration etc. as appropriate. Yo

ur cake will be stacked, dressed and checked with a spirit level to ensure that is perfectly level thus avoiding any danger of collapse. Photographs will be taken to document the condition your cake has been left in and a member of staff or nominated person will be asked to check the cake over and sign an acceptance form confirming that it is all perfect. This is not a timed service - I will only leave the premises when I am 100% satisfied that your cake is absolutely perfect no matter how long that takes!

E- Edges

I love sharp edges and you will see that all my cakes have this feature. They make a wedding cake look elegant and professional. Sharp edges are very on trend and although a lot more work, they do look fantastic.

F – Flavours

I am proud to offer you a vast selection of bakes, fillings and flavours. My secret recipe Brandy infused fruit cake is a popular choice for traditional cakes. I also offer my highly recommended light sponge cake and currently have 34 flavours listed on my website. I regularly update my flavour list to ensure there’s always something that everyone will love! If your favourite isn't there just ask and I'll do our best to accommodate you. Remember you can have a different flavour wedding cake for each wedding tier at no extra cost.

G – Ganache

Ganache is a wonderful tool for any cake maker. I use it to seal all my wedding cakes and this helps to achieve my beautiful sharp edges and flaw

less finish. Made by hand, it will be flavoured to compliment your wedding cake flavours and make them taste even more decadent.

H – Handmade

It may be obvious but I don’t think people realise that I hand make everything! I work alone so I create everything myself and do not outsource anything. It’s very hard work and my normal working day is often in excess of 15 hours, often much longer or even overnight in peak season. I do love what I do though so although I’m busy, it’s great fun.

I – Inspiration

Inspiration can come from anywhere. Colours, shapes, flavours, textures. Be prepared and save any images that appeal to you and bring that with you when we meet up so that we can go over them all when we chat. You’ll be surprised what detail can help!

J – Just in case…

I don’t like leaving anything to chance – a wedding cake is just too important for that. To make sure there’s no problems I always have spare flowers and decorations and a huge “cake first aid kit” (containing cake tools, ribbons etc.) with me during all deliveries. This means that in the very unlikely event of any problems I am able to rectify them straight away so that your cake is perfect.

K – Keepsakes

Many couples love keeping their cake decorations and sugar flowers as keepsakes from their special day. Sugar flowers do need to be treated with care as they are very fragile however can be stored for years (and years!). Some couples create gorgeous box-frames with sugar flowers or even keep them safely to be used on a future christening cake. There’s also lots of companies that create miniature replicas of wedding cakes out of clay. Lots of lovely ideas so make sure you ask your venue to keep them safely when they dismantle your cake to cut.

L – Leean

That’s me – the person behind your wedding cake! I started as a hobby baker over 20 years ago but quickly fell in love with the art of cake decorating. When I finally took the plunge and went into business I was amazed at the response and haven't looked back since! In 2016 Amelia Rose Cake Studio was voted 'BEST BAKERY' for the county of Northamptonshire in The Muddy Stilettos Awards. In 2017 I reached the regional finals in the 'Wedding Industry

Awards' then went on to be awarded 'Regional Highly Commended - East Midlands'. I was thrilled to repeat this success and retain this title in 2018. More success followed when later the same year I was announce

d overall winning 'Wedding Cake Designer 2018' for the Midlands region in 'The Wedding Awards'. I am immensely proud of these achievements and it is thanks to all my fabulous and loyal customers that I have been recognised by these prestigious wedding industry awards.

M – Messages

Making cakes is a messy business and it is just not practical to keep stopping every few minutes to clean myself up and answer phone calls. This means that I do prefer you to contact me by message, that way I can respond during one of my scheduled admin breaks throughout the day and I have a clear record of our conversation to refer to. You can contact me be Facebook, Instagram or by using the ‘contact form’ on my website.

N – NO Worries

Hiring a professional to create your wedding cake is often worth it just to have total peace of mind about your cake. You won’t have to worry about anything. I liaise directly with your venue, contacting them 48 hours before the wedding to check timing and always arrive on time (or usually early) to deliver. If you have any concerns or changes to your design I am always on hand to discuss and amend your order every step of the way, never be afraid to change anything or ask a question.

O - Ordering

Ordering your wedding cake is easy! If you like my work then in first instance contact me to see if I available on your wedding date. I advise you to get in contact as soon as you have set your date as I can only take on a limited amount of work each month.

All of the details of your cake will be clearly written in a contract so that we both have a clear record of exactly what will be provided. £100 saves the date and the balance will be due 4 weeks prior to the wedding.

P – Public Liability Insurance

I have all the required Public Liability Insurance, covering my cakes, my transportation to venue and even for my cake stands for use at external venues. A 5 star food hygiene rating and continuous food allergen training means that you can always be confident that your order will be of the highest standard and is covered by all required legislation.

Q – Quality

Quality is paramount! This is the most important cake you will ever buy and I fully respect the trust that is placed in me. My aim is to exceed expectation with every order and I am proud to say that I have never had a complaint. I am a perfectionist and would never deliver a cake I wouldn’t want personally on my own wedding day.

R – Recommendations/Reviews

I love your kind words and reviews, it makes all the hard work so worth it and always makes my day! I get so many enquiries via

recommendation which is really special to me too. Leaving reviews really helps little businesses like mine grow as new customers like to read what other brides and grooms feedback is. You can find my reviews on Facebook. Google and my website.

S – Servings

A very important aspect of ordering your wedding cake is approximately working out how many servings are needed. If you already have a dessert then a token gesture portion is ideal and I have a very helpful portion guide on my pricing page. Left over cake can be frozen if wrapped twice in cling film and once in tin foil so nothing is wasted. It’s a lovely idea to do this so you can have a slice of wedding cake whilst browsing your wedding photos or arriving home after honeymoon.

T - Tasters

Probably the most exciting aspect of ordering a wedding cake is choosing your flavours! I am really proud of my baking and provide a generous amount of flavours to every couple who order their wedding cake from me. This selection

will consist of my most popular flavours and usually a seasonal or slightly unusual flavour.

U – Unique

Every single wedding cake is bespoke and unique, therefore I will never copy a design from another cake maker. This is out of respect to other cake designers and so that you as a customer can be assured of something unique and personalised. My reproduction statement is as follows: “We reserve the right to comply with correct etiquette and do not execute direct and precise copies of works by any other cake designer"

V – Value

I do believe that you get what you pay for and that quality and talent does come at the relevant cost. You would expect to pay more for a senior hair stylist than you would for a junior and the same ethos applies to cake design. There will always be someone offering a cheaper cake but please ask yourself if you will be happy with the end result of that cheaper purchase?

My promise to all my clients is that I price up all of my cakes fairly and accurately based on all the products used and the hours spent working on it.

W – Website

There’s lots of useful information on my website and lots of photo galleries too for inspiration. Please take a look and use the contact form if you would like any further information.

X - eXtra’s

We don’t just make wedding cakes! We can provide all sorts of edible treats such as personalised cookies, cake pops, brownies, shortbreads, macarons, chocolate oreos, etc.. Please just ask for details.

Y – Your order matters.

I appreciate the trust that is placed in

me by each of my wonderful couples. To be a part of your wedding day is a huge honour and I take that responsibility very seriously. This means you can have total confidence that I will not let you down in any way.

Z – zzzzz

Sleep peacefully knowing your cake has been ordered and is going to be totally amazing!!

Lots of love,

Leean
